ACTIVE CARER GROUPS AROUND THE REGION

Over the past few years Carers in Partnership has worked hard to help develop Active  Carers Groups in each locality in the West Midlands region although, in some cases, these were already in existence. These are groups who work hard to improve local mental health services by liaising with mental health and social care teams and professionals and sometimes attend strategic and planning meetings to make positive changes in the system.

The ethos of carer involvement is to work positively and collectively and to deal with issues related to systems and not individuals (there are separate procedures for this). Active carers promote the concerns of carers of all ages and backgrounds and seek to contribute to new initiatives and research.
If you are interested in being involved in this type of activity within your own area, we can put you in contact with the appropriate person. Active Carers Groups currently exist in the following areas although they might be called something different:

  • Birmingham
  • Coventry
  • Dudley
  • Herefordshire
  • Sandwell
  • Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin (jointly)
  • Solihull
  • Stoke on Trent
  • Walsall
  • Warwickshire
  • Wolverhampton
  • Worcestershire

If you are a member of an active carers group in an area of the West Midlands other than those above, please contact us.
